The two full beds are separated from the room by two large gathered tent-like canvas curtains. The wallpaper is made of grass paper and has a decidedly earthy flavor. All the materials used for the curtains, bedspreads, and floor cushions were made from Kente cloth which has been hand woven since the 17th Century on wooden looms in Africa. The fabric has a typical African geometric design and is beautifully colorful.

The Neighborhood Our home is part of over 2000 acre Alpine Lake Resort with its own private 150 acre spring fed lake and award winning 18-hole golf course. While many come initially because it is only 20 minutes away from the Deep Creek Lake Recreation area, most find that they do not need to leave the resort to find what they are looking for on their Get-Away. The home is located on just over a third acre, backing up to “green” behind with another cottage on one side only. The roads are paved and well plowed in the winter to get around. The resort provides 24-hour security that patrol regularly. Located right on the West Virginia side of Maryland border (you can see and walk to the border) one is never far from entertainment, shopping, skiing, tubing, boating, rafting, horseback riding, bowling and endless other activities. In the town of Terra Alta we have one of the best brick oven pizza places in the region, Shorthorns Bar & Grill. Getting Around You will need a car to get around these parts. While you can walk or bike to the lake, golf and Lodge; it is quite a hike back up hill to our home. In the winter a four wheel drive is always preferred. But the roads are so well maintained that I usually drive my Prius all year round. Other Things to Note The home has central heating in the winter. The Wood Stove is decor only and not for use. Upstairs bedroom has separate radiator heater. There is air-conditioning. Use the remote on the table and set it to cool or heat. It is rare in these parts that it is needed, because at 2710 feet, it is relatively cool even in the summer. But on a scorching day, it will make it more comfortable. The thermostat on the wall is not used. This is a Smart Home, meaning that it has security, convenience and comfort features that are automated, like the outside door, there is no key but a keypad. There is a doorbell and spotlight camera facing the driveway. This is they only cameras on the premises. We want to be clear in disclosing that and that your privacy in our home is in compliance with which ever platform you booked your vacation. The home’s security, fire, smoke and carbon monoxide sensors are monitored by a Central Nationwide Monitoring Service. The alarm system will be disabled during your entire stay. But fire/smoke and carbon-monoxide sensors are monitored for your and our protection, should they trigger, emergency services will be dispatched immediately. House Rules Be respectful and clean up after yourself. As the good king Hammurabi once said “Good rules make good livin’” (paraphrased), so I’ll spell out some specifics: Communicate your arrival and departure times, and any changes. We want to be sure we have everything ready for you! Please don’t arrive early without prior notice. Do not smoke/vape anywhere in the house or on the premises. Absolutely no Pets. Children are welcome. Please only arrive with more guests than you booked. Remove make-up before crawling into bed. Make-up stains bedding and towels. We have specially embroidered washcloths marked “Make-up” for your use. Please don’t eat or drink anything while sitting on the bedding. We want to provide nice-quality bedding yet still keep our price low. This is a family-owned business. However, accidents happen! If you spill something on the sheets or blankets, please alert us immediately so that we can wash it. Thanks! This 2500 square foot log home is nestled in the saddle between two peaks on 40 wooded acres. Overlooking the Laurel Creek Valley and it is home to some of the best uncommercial kayaking in the state of West Virginia. You can step off the porch to go for a walk in the woods or down the gas well road. There are plenty of deer, turkeys and the occasional coyote can be heard in the evening. There is Fishing, Biking and Hiking all within a short distance from the cabin. On the expansive front porch you can enjoy the wind chimes as you sit and overlook the valley with a glass of wine. There is comfortable couch and chairs to relax on as well as a rocking chair. The spacious great room with its high ceilings and open floor plan is wonderful for a large group or a few couples. There is are two full size couches with a TV and DVD player. We also have a wonderful stand up Baldwin Piano, generally kept in tune! The full kitchen has plenty of workspace for anyone who would like to cook a gourmet meal. It is fully stocked with plenty of plates, serving items, glass and a fantastic dishwasher. There is also general kitchen items available, like salt,pepper,oil flour. We have two bedrooms on the first floor. The “Winter” room which has a Queen Bed facing east towards the sunrise has a large closet and dresser as well as a beautiful antique headboard. The “Summer Room” has a King Bed and overlooks the front porch and view of the valley it also has a large closet and dresser. The full bath with a tile tub and shower also includes a double sink vanity. The laundry room has a washer dryer and utility sink. The second floor has a loft with a recliner and is a great place to curl up with a book, if extra beds are needed this is the perfect spot for an air mattress. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. The “Fall” Master Bedroom with its poster king bed and room darkening curtains is welcoming and wonderful for those who need a very quiet place to rest. There are two closets and a dresser as well as a TV . The second bedroom is our “Spring Room” and has bunk beds and a trundle bed so 3 can sleep comfortably in this room. With the brightly decorated curtains it’s a perfect room for the kids. As you come out of the house the back porch wraps around and we have steps which lead down to our outdoor fire pit which is the perfect place to relax with friends and family and enjoy the sunset or see the amazing stars. Many a nights have been spent with good friends and stories around the campfire and there is always a pleasant breeze on the ridge. In this remote area of West Virginia you are surrounded by amazing scenery and rivers. The Tygart River is just a short drive from the cabin and is known for its beautiful whitewater and swimming. There is Moats Falls which is a 16’ waterfall cascading over the rocks. We can arrange with advance notice private kayaking instruction or rafting trips for any type of group, the gentle float or the class V excitement there is something for everyone. There is a flat water section of river from Philippi to the town of Arden. From Arden to the Teter Creek bridge it becomes Class IV whitewater and you can paddle over the 16’ waterfall if the water level is right! There is also creekin’ available on Teter & Laurel Creek just moments from the house. The Tygart Lake State Park is another nearby attraction where boats and all types of lake recreation activities are available. You can rent a pontoon boat for the day and enjoy this scenic lake. Another local favorite is Audra State Park where the Middle Fork of the Tygart river flows though tight channels and larger boulders, amazing fishing, hiking and swimming await you at this park. The famous Blackwater falls is an attraction about an hour from the house. This cascading waterfall drops 65 feet! This area is also home to some of the most famous and amazing Mountain Biking in the state of West Virginia. Stop in the local bike shop, Blackwater Bikes to find out about the trails but you can spend hours riding and even visit an area called “A Ride to the Moon” where you can challenge yourself on some of the most technical riding in the east on the Moon Rocks. This is not for novice riders! However, there are also some great easy trails as well; check out the bike path in Parsons or the Allegheny Trail which goes for miles a nice paved trail for road riders. The cabin is about 45 minutes from Clarksburg, 2 hours from Charleston and about 1 1/2 hours from Morgantown. If you are flying in either of these airports would work for you.
